Weaving the World was an unforgettable experience. The hotel was super cute and had an incredible breakfast buffet with fresh and very tasty foods. The trips chosen by the organiser gave me a comprehensive overview of the historical and cultural background of the city and left me wanting to know more and seriously consider a return visit to Mexico. Moreover, I had never weaved in my life and I came home with a tapestry made by myself (well, with a little help from the expert Zapotec teachers). The entire experience was wonderful and I’m very thankful to Palmira, the manager/organiser, to all the staff she hired and to the fantastic people I met along the trip

If anyone out there is considering the trip to Oaxaca, don’t hesitate! Book it now! This was my first big solo trip and I was a bit anxious. I’m so glad I went! Palmira met us at the airport and was with us the whole time, making sure we had everything we needed. Her knowledge of the area was invaluable and she arranged excellent accommodation,. guides and transport. Palmira was keen to know what we wanted to do and adapted the itinerary to suit us. Nothing was too much trouble! She also knows the best places to eat and we visited some amazing restaurants.
This trip was everything I expected and more!
The weaving experience was incredible! We were involved in the whole process from collecting flowers in the mountains for dyeing, washing fleeces in the river through to the finished article: a rug I shall treasure, as it holds so many happy memories!

Weaving the World offers an amazing cultural experience in Oaxaca, Mexico that excites and stimulates all the senses. The accompanied trip is centered around a four day dyeing and weaving course in a Zapotec weaving workshop in a village outside Oaxaca where one is involved in all the processes of preparing wool, dyeing and weaving and given expert individual tuition.
There were opportunities to visit some amazing colourful busy markets, buy ingredients and prepare some traditional Mexican dishes, visit the ancient sites of Monte Alban and Mitla, learn about other arts and crafts, visit museums, enjoy the surrounding mountainous landscape and generally soak up the atmosphere and culture of Oaxaca and its peoples. All our local guides and driver were very informative and the hotel offered great hospitality.
Palmira Serra from Weaving the World organized, guided and interpreted for us and became a great friend. Thank you.

Maryann:
I’m a fairly experienced weaver so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. However the weaving course exceeded all my expectations and was a truly amazing experience. I felt I learned so much and being with the wonderful Zapotec people, in their own village, and seeing how they continued on the traditions from their ancestors was something I shall treasure for the rest of my life. The visits to indigenous markets and to the ancient Zapotec archaeological sites was also enthralling. Loved the cooking day too! Oh, and great hotel – felt like I was being cared for every minute 🙂
